ABOUT THIS WORK

I started learning how to paint with watercolors and after a brief stint of disliking them, I've come back around! My favorite, as you see here, is mixing watercolors with other media to get the textures and contrasts I want. I was thinking of water rushing in or out of a space, boundaries shifting, and the texture of things like water and flower petals.

ABOUT THE SERIES

In 2011 I created a series of paintings called "Genesis and Dreamtime." I was inspired by the way that Australian aboriginal artists created abstract work portraying stories from their spiritual tradition, much of which revolved around creation + land. I decided to investigate the creation narrative I grew up with, and create abstract work with the narratives and themes I found. The land I grew up in became a part of this work as well; as a California native making this work in upstate New York, my longing for the ocean seeped into my art. Many of these pieces were composed around a circle which could reference the womb, cells/cellular division.

DAMAGE: There is some slight damage (scratches which I have tried to fill in) to the frame, which is why this work is at a discounted rate.
