ABOUT THESE WORKS

In this series of prints, I experimented with applying the ink in all sorts of ways, and these were two of my favorite results. The second print, Ground, This was different from the rest, with softer transitions and lighter grays. Is something growing underground? I liked it like this (upside down!) but you can hang it any way you want.

ABOUT THE SERIES

In 2011 I created a series of paintings called "Genesis and Dreamtime." I was inspired by the way that Australian aboriginal artists created abstract work portraying stories from their spiritual tradition, much of which revolved around creation + land. I decided to investigate the creation narrative I grew up with, and create abstract work with the narratives and themes I found. The land I grew up in became a part of this work as well; as a California native making this work in upstate New York, my longing for the ocean seeped into my art. Many of these pieces were composed around a circle which could reference the womb, cells/cellular division.
