ABOUT THESE WORKS

I made this series when I was attending a short boarding school program in high school. It was my first time living away from home. And, home was changing at the time - our kitchen was being remodeled. The kitchen is such a potent place of work/play/family, and I found myself wanting to capture it before it changed.

Through these paintings I realized how much I think about sunshine with home: curling up after school in the sunny patch by the glass door, opening the blinds in the morning. As much as a house and my initial concept of home was an enclosed space, the spaces in my home I wanted to paint were the parts of home that could be opened to the world: doors, windows, the backyard patio.

NOTE

These paintings are not on canvas, but on some kind of board whose archival quality I cannot attest to. (After 10+ years they are doing great though!)
